I actually like other people's kids in many ways...like, I like teaching young kids and I love when other kids are around to entertain my DD. But I also find other people's kids irritating often, judge them without restraint to DH and in my head, and make plans to avoid irritating children to the detriment of my own children's social experiences. On the flip side, my own children make me insane in ways that other children do not. Like, kid at the museum asks his mom 100 questions about every detail of things they see. I think, so smart, he's learning so much. My kid asks me 5 questions and I'm like, "it just is like that, DD" and check out.
I have never been much of a fan of other people's kids!
This. I have never been a "omg, can I hold your baby?" kind of girl. I never babysat, either. I figured that once I had kids I would be able to relate better to kids their age, but nope. When they have a friend over and for some reason I'm left alone with them I'm all like, "... ... ... So, Johnny, how do you like preschool?... ... .. That's good... ... .. um... and how's your mom?.... ..." so awkward.
I was very proud of myself for baking with some of the preschool kids at preschool two weeks ago. That's way outside of my comfort zone, but no one else was volunteering, and we had a task to focus on, so a lot of it was just giving friendly directions and making sure they didn't stick their fingers in their noses and then back in the dough.

I have to say that I am starting to prefer some of DD's friends more than others. DD tends to agree with me--she doesn't love playing with whiny kids anymore than I like hearing them. Problem is, it's easier to see the ones that have moms I know, and I'd be ditching the mom if I don't accept playdates...plus, I wouldn't want someone to drop me because my kid acts badly on some playdates...
