if your kid's best friends was your Feb child's age but your kid was 5.3? From day 1 at preschool DD's best friend has been L, and she and L constantly discuss all the fun they'll have one day. I know L turned 5 at the beginning of the year, so I'm kind of worried that the mom will be like, um, dear, it's weird for you to hang out with someone who's not even 4 yet. But I'm thinking of just inviting a few friends to DD's birthday and L would probably get included since they hang out every day at school, but then the mom would know that DD was just turning 4. You say, take a chill pill? Indeed, but I've just wondered this. We know some kids who are just turning 3 and one is pretty good at playing with M but most of them are pretty much parallel players at this point, but every kid is different.

When DD1 was 2 months shy of 3 she was invited to a 5-yr-old's b-day party from preschool. I think it's nbd. They weren't even really playing at the same level, but the 5-yr-old kind of has a mothering complex and loves to (try to) take care of littler kids. Even now that the older girl is almost 8 she loves to play with littler kids. I think it totally depends on the kid, and you shouldn't overthink it. Invite the kids your kid likes. If their parents think it's strange (unlikely), then they'll just turn down the invite.
