Now that DS is going on 7 months, I want to start weaning him off his pacifier. He wants it all the time, and seems to need it to fall asleep at nap time or bed time, though he doesn't seem to need it to fall back asleep if he wakes up MOTN. I've heard this is the best age to begin weaning or we'll have lots of paci's for a long time.
Tips please? I'm concerned about him relying on the paci to self-soothe.
Yeah, I agree with @kitchen. I feel like it's like anything else in parenthood. Just do it and be consistent. It'll probably suck for a day or two, but eventually they learn their new normal. You just can't give in.

@kitchen, britta, I was really afraid that'd be the answer. He really starts to scream without it sometimes and I am afraid the time to kill this habit without tears has passed, but we may start trying for reals this weekend when we have him all day to ourselves.
No help since we didn't wean DS til just before he was 2 (he was only using it at nap and bedtime). I literally gathered them all up and he watched me throw them out. It was a non issue. DD still uses hers for nap and bed time, though like your ds, she only uses them for sleep and doesn't always need it put back motn
