So awesome bonzo2012!!! Have you had pullets before?! If you haven't, let me know if you have questions!! We've had ours (now hens) since April of 2014! We have two Easter Eggers as well!! Both of ours lay pink and of course we were hoping to see green, purple, blue or gray I learned from another lady on TCF who is also a hen mama that these chickens all carry the gene to lay the other colors but it just so happened that ours lay the blush ones.
That's awesome!! Ours started laying around the five month mark. Nothing beats fresh eggs! You'll notice that during molting season and during the winter months, eggs will be a little scarce. We started with eight hens (but lost two to strokes early on) and our six - during the height of laying season - will give us about a dozen every two days. We sell some to colleagues and give some to neighbors and family Aren't they super easy to care for?! We have four dogs and two cats and the hens are the easiest to care for, hands down!
We have coyotes and other predators, so we're going to be building the Fort Knox of chicken coops. Digging down about a foot, laying galvanized hardware cloth, building up a foundation of CMUs, then the coop with hardware cloth and locks. It should keep the predators out, so maybe something similar could keep your dogs out?
